Norfolk -Grant Garris, 70, of 1310 Bolton Street died Monday in his home 
after a long illness.

A native of Kinston NC, he was a son of Ulysses and Mrs. Frances Garris and 
the husband of Mrs. Mattie Garris.

He formerly worked for Hagan’s Supply Co. He was a member of Malechi Masonic 
Lodge 136 and a deacon of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Besides his widow, surviving are five sons, Leonder Garris, Melvin Garris, 
and Edward Garris, of Norfolk, William Garris of Portsmouth, and Grant 
Garris Jr. of Washington; three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Chavis, Mrs. 
Theresa Etheridge and Mrs. Mattie Telefair of Norfolk; two brothers Lonnie 
Garris of Norfolk and Clayton Garris of New York City; a sister, Mrs. Ada 
Bryant of Norfolk; 25 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

The body was taken to Hale Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 
Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul C.M.E. by the Rev. W. O. Deloatch. Burial 
will be in Calvary Cemetery.
