Mrs. Garrity was born Oct. 11, 1939, in Waynesboro, and was the daughter of Estelle Lipscomb of Harrisonburg. She was a 1961 graduate of Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga., and earned a Master’s in English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was employed in public relations for Sears in Atlanta and taught English literature at Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. She was a book editor at Duke University Press in Durhan, N.C., before becoming a reporter for the Watertown (N.Y.) Times and assistant editor of Fiction International, published at St. Lawrence University. She and her husband moved to Bowling Green, Ohio, in 1990. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Henry A. Garrity of Bowling Green; a brother, Richard Lipscomb of Lawrence, Kan., and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be scheduled at a future time. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Wood County, Ohio.
