On December 27, 1936, Joseph Gates, Jr. entered earth's gates in thanksgiving. 
On December 20, 2021, Joseph Gates, Jr., exited earth's gates and entered 
Heaven's Gates with praise. Joseph was a veteran having served in the US Air 
Force. He worked for the government most of his career and as a farmer in his 
free time. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Joseph & Margaret Bodner 
Gates.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Joan Gates, and her children, 
Jack Waddington (Renee') and Natalie Barnes (Eugene); sisters, Mary Cardwell & 
Margaret Pugh; very close friend, Greg Smith; and a host of other family and 
friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 23 at Fellowship Baptist 
Church on Tulls Creek Rd, at 11:00 am with a celebration of life immediately 
following at 12:00 pm. Burial will be held later on Wednesday Dec. 29, at 
Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk at 2:00 pm. Express condolences to the family at
