Norfolk Virginian Pilot January 24, 1937 

 
Mrs. Jennie M.  Gatewood, aged 61, widow of Samuel J. Gatewood and daughter of 
the late Willis W. and Love Morse Burfoot, died at her residence, 208 West 
Thirty-Second Street Friday night at 11:30 o’clock. She is survived by a 
daughter, Mrs. E.U. McGrath, of Virginia Beach; a son, C.R. Gatewood, of 
Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. H.L. Taylor, of Norfolk; two brothers, Ambrose W. 
Burfoot, of Norfolk, and John D. Burfoot, of Jacksonville, Fla., and two 
grandchildren. Mrs. Gatewood was a native of Camden County, N.C., and had been 
a resident of Norfolk 35 years. She was a member of Burrows Memorial Baptist 
Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon Brown Funeral Home this 
afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
