NORFOLK - Bertha Mae Gatling, 83, died Dec. 31, 2009 in Norfolk. Mrs. Gatling was 
the daughter of the late Albert and Nannie Covington Harris and was the widow of 
Franklin D. Gatling Jr. She was retired from the dry cleaning business working at 
Howard, S. Ray Barretts and Compeco Cleaners.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila G. Briggs and the Rev. Leroy Briggs of 
Norfolk, and daughter Victory E. Gatling of Germany; three grandchildren and seven 
great-grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church with Father Daniel Klem officiating. Burial will follow at St. 
Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 
a.m. until service time Saturday morning. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk 
Chapel, is handling arrangements.
