Mrs. Gatling lived in this area all of her life. She was the widow of C. Randolph Gatling, daughter of Harry and Ella Lewis and adopted daughter of Miss Minnie Lee Moore. She graduated from Wilson High and Harrisonburg State Teachers College, taught in Norfolk County and did substitute teaching. She was a member of Westhaven Baptist Church and a former member of Park Place Baptist Church, Norfolk. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a charter member of the Waterview Garden Club. Survivors include her children, Dorothy G. Russell of Virginia Beach, Catherine G. Worley of Wheeling, W.Va., James R. Gatling and Richard B. Gatling, both of Chesapeake; two sisters, Columbia Shelby and Ella Cloninger, both of Hopewell, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, by Rev. W. Thomas Wood. Burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at her home.
