Shirley was born to Genevieve Fallon Gedmin and Victor John Gedmin in Norfolk. She was a graduate of Maury High School and went on to graduate with honors from The College of William and Mary, Norfolk division, now known as Old Dominion University. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology and she was admitted as an affiliate member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists in 1970. Shirley retired from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after 42 years of dedicated service rendered to the hospital and community in the delivery of quality health care. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church for 61 years and was a tireless volunteer in both her church and her community. She also enjoyed traveling the world with her family and friends. Shirley was predeceased by her parents and her nephew, Timothy Coleman Gedmin. Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Victor Gerald Gedmin and his wife Dorothy Nickerson Gedmin of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; her nephew, Dr. Victor Jeffery Gedmin and his wife Dr. Jeana Williams Gedmin and their daughter Katrina Nicole Gedmin of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her friend of more than 50 years, Dr. Roman Knoblich; her spiritual family, the congregation of Christ the King Catholic Church; and her extended family and friends. The family would like to thank Victor's sister-in-law, June Linton Crockett, of Virginia Beach, for her lifelong friendship and for her help in caring for Shirley in the months preceding her passing. A memorial Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16, in Christ the King Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Christ the King Catholic School Development Fund, 1803 Columbia Ave., Norfolk, VA 23509, or the charity of your choice. H.D.
