VIRGINIA BEACH - Mary Garcia Gelardi, 89, passed away March 10, 2009, after a 
year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Born Sept. 29, 1919, in Norfolk, she was 
the daughter of the late Manuel and Rosa Garcia. She was a woman of strong faith 
and conviction - her spirit made a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Pete, Freddie, Manny and infant 
brother Michael Garcia; and her husbands, Edward Gelardi and Robert Wilcher.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Michael Gelardi and wife Susan of 
Virginia Beach and Edward Gelardi and wife Nancy of California; five daughters, 
MaryAnn Stewart and husband Bobby of Minnesota, Jeanette Wilcher of Arizona, Rosa 
Sznaikart and husband Walter of Virginia Beach, Helen Holder of Virginia Beach and 
Josephine Gatlin of Georgia; 25 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and one 
great-great-granddaughter; sister, Anna DeAngelo of Florida; two brothers, 
Dominick Garcia and wife Millie of Virginia Beach and Edward Garcia and wife Sandy 
of Florida; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road 
Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Norfolk immediately following the 
service. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children, 
6171 Kempsville Circle, Norfolk, VA 23502.
