Norfolk Virginian January 15, 1888

The funeral of Mrs. Lydia J., wife of Mr. R.B. Gilbert, will take place from 
the Park Avenue Baptist Church, of which the lady was one of the first 
organizers, this morning at 11 o'clock.  Mrs. Gilbert was a lady who had by 
her beautiful disposition and lovely character won many friends, who were 
shocked to hear the announcement of her death, which sad event occurred 
Friday afternoon.

The funeral of Mrs. Lydia J. Gilbert took place from Park Avenue Baptist 
Church, Brambleton, Sunday morning, and was largely attended.  Rev. R.W. 
Cridlin conducted the funeral services, after which the remains were born to 
Elmwood Cemetery and interred.  The following gentlemen acted as 
pallbearers: Messrs. Dennis Etheredge, John W. Whitehurst, A.B. Walker, 
Thomas Edmunds, W.B. Sanderlin, J.R. Powell, and George T. Whitehurst.
