Virginian-Pilot May 28, 1959
NORFOLK — Mrs. Hattie Virginia Flora Giles, 81, wife of John William Giles, died 
in a Portsmouth hospital Wednesday at 6 a.m. after a long illness.
She was a native of Moyock, N.C., and had lived in this area for 70 years, 
residing at St. Brides at the time of her death. She was a member of the 
Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Giles was the daughter of John Andrew and Mrs. Ellen Cox Flora.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John Bert Giles of St. 
Brides, a brother, Isaac Henry Flora of Norfolk, and four grandchildren, Pearl 
Emogine Giles of Fentress, Emily Christine Giles of Norfolk, William Bert Giles 
of St. Brides, and T. Harvey Giles of Norfolk.
The body was taken to the Cox Funeral Home and will be taken to Elmwood Cemetery 
for graveside services Friday at 3 pm.
