Virginian-Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark January 12, 1917

Miss Margaret M. Gillerlain, aged 77 years, died yesterday afternoon at 5 
o'clock at her home, 816 Raleigh Avenue, after an illness of but a few days. A 
native of England, she had been a resident of this city for sixty years. She was 
widely known both in social and business world. A woman of charming personality, 
she was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends. She is survived by her 
sister, Mrs. Edward Hart; a niece, Mrs. J.P. McHugh and a nephew, J.M. Kerr, all 
of Norfolk. The funeral will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church Saturday 
morning at 10 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. John Doherty. Burial will be 
private in St. Mary's Cemetery.

The funeral of Miss Margaret M. Glllerlain took place at St. Mary's church 
yesterday at 10 o'clock and was largely attended. Solemn high requiem mass was 
conducted by Rev. J. J. Doherty, the pastor, as celebrant; Rev. L. J. Ryan, 
deacon, and Rev. P. P. Brennan, sub-deacon. There were many beautiful floral 
offerings. “Lead, Kindly Light,” was sung by Vincent Smith, as the procession 
left the church. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The pallbearers were W. 
M. Hannan, George Hogan, E. S. Mahoney, J. F. O’Connell, M. McKevitt, John 
Mariner, M. T. Friary and J. E. Burke.
