Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, June 17, 1993 
Bettie H. Gilliam, of the 800 block of Cumberland St., a retired cook, died June
14, 1993, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Gilliam was born in Elizabeth City. She was retired from the Norfolk city
schools.

Survivors include her husband, Johnnie Gilliam; four daughters, Marjorie Walker,
Bettie J. Gilliam, Vanessa Uzzle and Faye A. Cherry, all of Norfolk; two sons,
Johnnie W. Gilliam and Larry D. Gilliam, both of Norfolk; two sisters, Agnes
Artis of Norfolk and Alverta Atkins of Queens, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and a
host of great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Graves Funeral Home by the Rev
J.L. Kearney. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Friends may join the family
at the residence.
