Gillis, one of the best known ladies of the ward, died yesterday morning at 9 o'clock at the Norfolk Protestant Hospital after a lingering illness of several months duration. The deceased was a native of Eastern Shore, Maryland, but has resided in Berkley and South Norfolk for several years. She was 89 years old and was a grandmother of Mrs. Dr. E.F. Truitt, Mrs. Dr. J.S. Costenbader and Mrs. F.O. Durham, the latter of South Norfolk; and survived by two sons, Alfred Gillis of Philadelphia and Irving Gillis of this city. The funeral will be conducted from the residence of her son, Irving Gillis, Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock and the interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
