Norfolk - Josephine Plummer Gilman of Chantilly, Virginia, and Kill Devil Hills, 
North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2018. She was 99 years old. 
She was born in her home in what was then Elizabeth County, now Newport News, 
Virginia on April 6, 1918. She grew up in Tidewater, lived in Hampton, Norfolk, 
and Gloucester (Dutton). She is predeceased by her first husband, Louis G. Plummer 
with whom she had three children, and second husband, Jean Gilman. She is survived 
by two daughters, Sara J. Acuff of Chantilly, Virginia, and Kathleen Plummer 
Stacey of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, and step-son Jean Gilman Jr., of 
Queenstown, Maryland. She had one son, Louis B. Plummer, who is deceased. Mrs. 
Gilman, known to all as Nanny or Aunt Bubba, was the proud grandmother of 7 
grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as well as 
many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be at H.D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, Norfolk, on Friday, February 16 from 6 to 8 pm. 
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 2:30 at Saint Mary's 
Cemetery on Granby Street in Norfolk. The family will be staying at the Marriott 
Hotel Waterside in Norfolk. Memorial donations can be made to charities of your 
choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments will be handling the visitation and
