G. Irwin, Capt. S. H. Todd, arrived in port from New York last night, having on board the dead body of a white woman, who, the captain claims, was a passenger. He says that on Saturday afternoon, when between Hog Island and Cape Charles, she was taken sick and began vomiting, dying four hours afterward. He says she was 31 years old, and that her name was Miss Eva Gilson. The matter was reported at the stationhouse, and, Coroner Newton being out of the city, the magistrates were called on, but declined to hold an inquest last night. The captain seemed inclined to surround the affair in great mystery, and at first refused to give the name of the deceased or any information. The vessel is lying off the Portsmouth flats, and, if anyone can be found to do so, an inquest may possibly be held this morning. Additional Comments: Date of death calculated from this obit.
