GLENNAN, BUSINESS LEADER, DIES Norfolk Man Headed New York Corporation Manufacturing Refrigeration Accessory William Shield Glennan, 65, whose business interests caused him to divide his time between Norfolk and New York, died Thursday at his residence, 7477 North Shore Rd. He had been in failing health in recent weeks. His principal business association in New York was as president, treasurer and owner of Silverice Inc., manufacturers of a refrigeration accessory called "Silverice" which he invented in 1927. He was on the board of directors of The Virginian-Pilot and Ledger-Star. Son of Editor A native of Norfolk, Mr. Glennan was the son of the late Michael Glennan, at one time editor an owner of the Norfolk Virginian, and the late Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Keville Glennan. He is survived by a brother, Michael Glennan, of Virginia Beach. Mr. Glennan was educated at Georgetown Preparatory School, the University of Virginia and Columbia University. A Navy veteran of World War I, Mr. Glennan was advanced to the rank of ensign after graduating from Naval Officers school. Other Affiliations His club and other affiliations included membership in the United States Naval Institute; the Society of Colonial Wars; the Military Order of Foreign Wars; the Naval Order of the United States; Military Order of World Wars; Alumni association of Columbia Law School; the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club; Cavalier Beach Club; University Club of New York; Metropolitan Club of New York and the Bath and Tennis Club of Palm Beach. The body is at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. ************************************************************************* NORFOLK - Funeral services for William S. Glennan, who died Friday at the residence, 7477 North Shore Rd., were conducted at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Monday at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Francis L. Bradican. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The pallbearers were W S. Keville, Joseph Fiveash, J. Goodenow Tyler, Maj. Paul W. Kear, Paul S. Huber, Frank Batten, Samuel T. Northern, W. B. Clark, George M. Jackson and W. Peyton May.
