Norfolk Virginian Pilot April 19, 1940
Miss Bettie R. Godfrey, aged 74 years, daughter of the late William and Mrs. 
Julia Rew Godfrey, a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, died at 1 o'clock 
yesterday morning at the residence 115 A View avenue, Ocean View.  Miss Godfrey 
was a lifelong member of First Methodist formerly Cumberland Street Methodist 
Church.
She is survived by a niece, Mrs. George J. Gulbranson, and a nephew, Willie M. 
Simmons, both of Norfolk.
Services will be held at the chapel of the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 
Colonial avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Interment will be in Elmwood 
Cemetery.  Services will be conducted by the Rev. T.J. Hawkins, pastor of the 
First Methodist Church.
