VIRGINIA BEACH — Melvin Lee Godfrey, 71, of 2208 Rockbridge Road, a native of 
Norfolk, died Saturday in a hospital.
He was a retired employee of the city of Norfolk and he was a Methodist.
Survivors include nine sisters, Mrs. T. Lee Brown of Richmond, Mrs. Howard H. 
Holman Jr., Mrs. Norman T. Cox, Mrs. Grayson M. Whitehurst, Mrs. Thelma Reese, 
Miss Lois Godfrey, Mrs. L. O. Branch of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Florrie L. Daniels 
and Mrs. George T. Drumwright of Norfolk; and four brothers, Burk Godfrey, 
Thomas W. Godfrey, Eugene Godfrey and Dan Godfrey of Virginia Beach.
A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 
Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Douglas K. Spurlock. Burial will be in Elmwood 
Cemetery, Norfolk. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman T. Cox, 
816 St. Martin Drive, Virginia Beach.
