Godwin, one of Berkley's best known citizens, died Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his home 119 Walnut street after a lingering illness of several months. The deceased was 49 years old and is survived by a widow and one son, W.L. Godwin. He was a native of the State, but had resided in this section a greater portion of his life. He was a member of Main Street Christian Church, Elizabeth Camp No. 3, Woodmen of the World, the latter of Norfolk. The funeral was conducted from the residence yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock, Rev. W.L. Bryant, pastor of Main Street Christian Church, officiated and was assisted by Rev. J.O. Cox of South Norfolk and Rev. A.J. Ramsey of the Gospel Church. Pallbearers: Cleveland Manning, W.J. Spence, W.H. Butler, Frank M. Smith, Jas. F. Tatem and W.A. Gee.
