Goff, mother, and her daughter Miss Mabel Goff. Mrs. Goff died in St. Vincent’s Hospital Tuesday evening, February 3, as a result of burns sustained in her home around 12 o’clock noon of the same day. Her daughter, who had been in poor health for some time, died in her home the following morning. The daughter’s death was hastened by the shock experienced when she sought to save her mother from a flaming death. The funeral services were in charge of the Rev. Dewitt Proctor, senior theological student at Virginia Union University. Rev. Dr. R. H. Bowling, pastor, of the First Baptist Church delivered the funeral sermon. The casket of Mrs. Goff bore a covering spray of white gladiolas, pink roses and ferns. Miss Goff’s casket was covered with a spray of white gladiolas, red roses and ferns. There was a profusion of floral tributes. Interment took place in Calvary Cemetery. Pall Bearers Pall bearers for the mother were: James Monroe, Thomas Stancill, Harold Davenport, Monroe Darlington, Walter Fulford and Dennis Ashburne. For the daughter, pall bearers were: Louis Tyler, George Jackson, Isaiah Booker, James P. Brown, Ernest Jackson and James Archer. The deceased resided at 220 East Olney Road, where the tragedy occurred, and had been for years active in the religious and civic life of the community. Survivors are Dr. William Goff, of Covington, VA, son and brother, and Miss Lucille Goff, daughter and sister who is a local school teacher.
