K. GOODRIDGE - The funeral of this estimable gentleman took place yesterday afternoon from the First Presbyterian church and was attended by a large concourse of the friends and acquaintances of the deceased and by Owens Lodge, No. 164 A.F. & A.M. The Rev. N. M. Woods, of the Second Presbyterian Church, assisted by Rev. J. M. Rose of Portsmouth, conducted the services, during which the choir rendered the hymn No. 655, "In vain the fancy strives to paint, the moment after death" and hymn No. 635, "I would not live always." The Rev. Mr. Woods delivered a beautiful and touching sermon, taking his text from John xvii, 14th verse, "Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me." At the conclusion of the services, the remains were conveyed to Elmwood cemetery, whither they were followed by a lengthy procession, and after the usual ceremonies, they were placed in their last resting place. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: Judge Wm. H. Burroughs, from Owens Lodge No. 164 A.F. & A.M , and Hon. John S. Tucker, W. W. Chamberlaine, Esq., Capt. J. N. Bell, W. D. Reynolds, Esq., Geo. C. Reid, Esq., and Capt. T. A. Williams.
