He was 76 years old and was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk. Mr. Goodson had been continuously in the produce business here for the past 67 years. He operated a stall in the City Market under the firm name of J. R. Goodson and is credited with having introduced more new fruits and vegetables to the people of Norfolk than any other man of his time. In his younger days, Mr. Goodson was active in civic and fraternal affairs, having been largely responsible for the organization of several fraternal orders. He was a member of the old volunteer Fire Department, which was superseded by Norfolk's present paid department. Mr. Goodson was a son of John Robert and Mrs. Clara Goodson. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertie L. Goodson; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Snow, of Norfolk, and Mrs. C. J. Winn, of Portsmouth; two sons, William B. and John R. Goodson, Jr., of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Frank D. Cunton, of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body will be taken from the funeral home of E. Lee Cox & Bro., 631 Westover avenue, to the family residence this morning for funeral services tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The Rev. W. Taylor Willis, rector of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church, of which Mr. Goodson was a member, will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery.
