BEATRICE UPDIKE GOODWIN Age 80, in the 81st year of her age, widow of CHARLES 
DAY GOODWIN and daughter of NATHANIEL B. and Mrs. HOPE MARTIN UPDIKE, a native 
of Lynchburg and a resident of Norfolk for 27 years, died Saturday, December 
27, 1952 at 10:30 am in a Norfolk hospital after a long illness. She was a 
member of Epworth Methodist Church and resided at 315 Windmere

Avenue, Norview. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. NELLIE GOODWIN SMITH of 
Norfolk and Mrs. KATHERN GOODWIN WEST of Newark, New Jersey; 2 sisters, Mrs. 
SALLY WOOFORD of Bedford and Miss CLARA UPDIKE of Leesville and 2 brothers, 
O.L. UPDIKE and WALTER UPDIKE of Leesville. Private funeral services will be 
conducted at the Derry-Twiford Funeral Home, 1920 Colley Avenue, Monday 
morning, December 29, 1952. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
