Mr. Goodwyn was born in Caswell County, N.C., and was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute. He had retired as director of construction at the Atlantic Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command. He was named engineer of the year in 1968 by the Tidewater Chapter of the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers. He was a past president of Northside Rotary Club, Virginia Society of Professional Engineers and Hampton Roads Chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member and former vestryman of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. He was the widower of Katherine Moore Goodwyn. Survivors include a son, Charles Goodwyn Jr. of Sunnyvale, Calif., and two grandchildren. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. Peter G. Magill. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the church's memorial fund.
