NORFIKJ - Melvin Sidney Gottlieb, son of Nellie Rabinowitz Gottlieb and the 
late Alex Gottlieb, died on March 18, 2002, at Beth Sholom Home. He died from 
complications of MS.
Mr. Gottlieb was born in Norfolk on September 24, 1932, and lived his entire 
life in the area. He graduated from Maury High School in 1951. In high school, 
he was on the baseball, football and wrestling teams. In 1950 he won the 
division high school state light-heavy weight wrestling championship. He was 
active in the Norfolk Community League baseball and American Legion baseball.
He attended the Norfolk Division of William and Mary (now ODU), where he was on 
the varsity baseball team. He was a partner in MelRay Beverage Company and for 
many years owned a mortgage banking business.
Survivors include his mother of Norfolk; a sister, Anita Gottlieb of 
Washington, DC and Rock Hall, MD; two brothers, Henry Gottlieb of Norfolk and 
Raymond Gottlieb of Virginia Beach; a nephew, Andrew Gottlieb of Virginia 
Beach; and a niece, Julianna Gottlieb Friedman of Clifton, NJ.
A graveside service will be conducted 12:30 p.m. today at B'Nai Israel Cemetery 
on Cromwell Road in Norfolk. The family will be sitting Shiva at 943 E. 
Armfield Circle, Apt. 102. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts, Norfolk Chapel, is 
handling arrangements.
