She was the widow of James O. Gramby Jr. Mrs. Gramby was born in Norfolk where she attended Norfolk public schools. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, then furthered her education at Virginia State College. Alvina's joy was music. Her mother, the late Florence Smith, an accomplished piano teacher, taught her the piano. As a member of St. Paul CME Church, Alvina was the pianist for St. Paul Church Sunday school for 68 years and the accompanist for St. Paul Kindergarten for more than 15 years. Alvina had a deep compassion and love for everyone. She was full of fun. Her friendly smile and cheerful attitude were well known in the community. She held out a helping hand to everyone, whether it was a need of love, encouragement, understanding or even a bit of humor. Even though Alvina showed most of the gifts of the Spirit, she had one very special gift - it was the ability to convey and convince each person with whom she was involved that they were special to her. All who knew her great sense of humor and radiant smiling face will sorely miss her. Alvina was renowned for her greeting card ministry. She devoted many joyous hours sending greeting cards to all in her community. Survivors include her daughter, Alvina G. Scott of Fairfax, Va.; a brother, Levi O. Smith Jr. of Norfolk; a sister, Florence Sparkman of Philadelphia, Pa.; grandchildren, Tracy R. Scott of Los Angeles, Calif. and Danelle S. Ballard of Memphis, Tenn.; four great-grandsons, Jerome C.
