York St., member of a well- known, old Princess Anne County family, died Sunday at 8:45 a.m. in a hospital after a long illness. Born at "Waverly," her father's home in Princess Anne County, she was a daughter of Horatio Cornick and Mrs. Mary Nash Herbert Hoggard, and the widow of Julian H. Granbery. She was a member of Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church and its altar guild. Mrs. Cranberry is remembered by many Norfolkians for her rescue of her nephew, Thurmer Hoggard, in 1909. The boy fell into 12 feet of water from the stone abutment that then marked the west end of York Street. Mrs. Granbery dove into the water and saved the boy from drowning. She is also remembered for her part in the effort to save the Ghent Bridge from demolition in 1962. With her sisters, Miss Mary Lou Hoggard and Miss Frances Cade Hoggard, she obtained around 1,700 signatures on 30 petitions. These were presented to the Norfolk City Council and were successful in saving the bridge for pedestrian traffic, although it was closed to automotive traffic. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Maurice Waller of New York City and Lawrence, Long Island; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoggard Gwynne of Virginia Beach, and Miss Mary Lou Hoggard and Miss Frances Bide Hoggard of Norfolk; a grandson, Harry A. V. Parker III and a great-grandson, Harry A. V. Parker IV, of Miami. The body was taken to H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Walton W. Davis. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
