Princess Anne Road. She was the widow of Cyrus Wiley Grandy IV, former chairman of United Virginia Mortgage. Mrs. Grandy, the daughter of the Rev. Henry Hatch Dent Sterrett and Helen Black Sterrett, was born in Columbus, Ohio, living there for a year before her parents returned to Washington, D.C., where she grew up at Springland, which had been the family home since the 1840s. A fifth-generation Washingtonian, she was a graduate of both the Madeira School in Greenway, Va., and Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Conn. She attended George Washington University. Mrs. Grandy's father was for many years rector of All Souls' Memorial Church in Washington. Founding rector of All Souls' was the Rev. J. MacBride Sterrett, Mrs. Grandy's paternal grandfather, author of several books on religion and philosophy and, at his death, professor emeritus of philosophy at George Washington. During World War II, Mrs. Grandy worked for the Office of Strategic Services. There she met her future husband, a Norfolk native, who was also employed by the OSS. In 1945, a few years after their marriage, the Grandys moved to Norfolk. Mrs. Grandy served on the boards of the auxiliary of Medical Center Hospitals, Citizens Against the Refinery's Effects, the Norfolk Forum, the Tuberculosis Association and the Hermitage Foundation. She was a multigallon donor to the American Red Cross, Tidewater Regional Blood Services program. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Norfolk and Virginia Beach and a member of Christ & St. Luke's Church, where she served on the Altar Guild. She also was a member of the Colonial Dames, the Sulgrave Club in Washington, the Garden Club of Norfolk, the Westover Garden Club, Princess Anne Country Club and the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. She is survived by a daughter, Carter Grandy Scott of Norfolk; two sons, Cyrus Wiley Grandy V of Norfolk and Hatch Dent Sterrett Grandy of Richmond; two brothers, Judge Samuel Black Sterrett of Chevy Chase, Md., and Dr. Henry Hatch Dent Sterrett of McLean; and five grandchildren. A memorial service for Mrs. Grandy will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Christ & St. Luke's Church by Bishop A. Heath Light of the Western Diocese of Virginia and the Rev. James B. Samuel Jr. A private interment ceremony in Elmwood Cemetery will follow the memorial service. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, is in charge.
