Virginian-Pilot March 5, 1917
Joseph Francis Graves, aged 45 years, died yesterday at 4:40 a.m. at the home of 
his brother-in-law, George T. Fairer, 311 Franklin avenue, after an illness of two 
months. The funeral will take place at the residence Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial 
will be in Elmwood cemetery. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, 
Misses Virginia Lee and Clara Mae Graves; his mother, Mrs. Hettie A. Graves of 
Lynchburg; two brothers, W. K. of Graham, Va., and Payton Graves of Sun, W.Va.; 
two sisters, Mrs. E. B. Lukins of Bedford county, Va. and Mrs. Lu M. Oaks of 
Lynchburg.
