CHESTER — Leonard Roberts Graves Sr., 72, of 720 Cliffside Drive, died Tuesday 
in Hopewell Hospital.
He was born in Norfolk and lived here for eight years. He was the husband of 
Mrs. Margaret C. Graves. He was a retired employee of Chesapeake & Potomac 
Telephone Co. of Virginia.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Chester; Richmond Chapter, Sons 
of the American Revolution; a volunteer for John Randolph Hospital Auxiliary; 
and a volunteer dispatcher for Bensley-Bermuda Rescue Squad.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Richard R. Butterworth of Dinwiddie; a 
son, the Rev. Leonard R. Graves Jr. of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Mrs. 
Elizabeth Graves Gresham of Norfolk; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. John's Episcopal 
Church by the Rev. Robert Armstrong. A private interment will be in Elmwood 
Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Bensley-Bermuda 
Rescue Squad. J.T. Morriss Funeral Home, Hopewell, has charge.
