He was born in Norfolk and lived here for eight years. He was the husband of Mrs. Margaret C. Graves. He was a retired employee of Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. of Virginia. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Chester; Richmond Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution; a volunteer for John Randolph Hospital Auxiliary; and a volunteer dispatcher for Bensley-Bermuda Rescue Squad. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Richard R. Butterworth of Dinwiddie; a son, the Rev. Leonard R. Graves Jr. of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Graves Gresham of Norfolk; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Robert Armstrong. A private interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Bensley-Bermuda Rescue Squad. J.T. Morriss Funeral Home, Hopewell, has charge.
