Hertford resident - Marq Gray Jr., 80, of 130 Evergreen Drive, Hertford, died 
Monday afternoon, Oct. 27, 2003, in Chowan Hospital.
Born in Norfolk, Va., he was the husband of the late Doris Hope Hutcheson Gray 
and the son of the late Marq and Lillian Ruth Russell Gray. He retired as a 
senior master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force after 29 years of service and 
later worked for 11 years in civil service with the Elizabeth City Coast Guard 
Air Station. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he was a lay 
minister; the Bethel Ruritan Club and Perquimans Masonic Lodge #106. Gray was 
also a member of American Legion Post #126, VFW Post #8148, a life member of the 
Air Force Association and the Retired Enlisted Association.
Survivors include a niece, Marcia Gray, and a nephew, David Gray, both of 
Hampton, Va.; and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Gray of Hampton, Va. and Virginia 
Perry Baldwin of Norfolk, Va.
The family will receive friends Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Swindell 
Funeral and Cremation Services, Hertford.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery, 
Norfolk.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Shriner's Crippled Children's 
Hospitals, c/o Sudan Temple, P.O. Drawer 490, New Bern, NC 28560.
Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services of Hertford is serving the Gray family.
