Norfolk Virginian Pilot June 21, 1938

Emmett Gray, aged 68, husband of Mrs. Callie Godfrey Gray, and son of the late 
Emmett O. and Mrs. Martha Duck Gray, died yesterday (Monday) afternoon at 12:40 
o'clock at a local hospital.
Mr. Gray was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, was for 19 years a 
special agent for the Norfolk Southern Railway. He retired September 1, 1937. He 
resided at 527 New Jersey Avenue. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Callie 
Godfrey Gray; four daughters, Mrs. Samuel Ozment, Mrs. R.M. Arnold, Mrs. W.M. 
Towe and Mrs. R.L. Rea; five sons, Emmett F., Richard O., Julius B., Linwood E. 
and Newton L. Gray; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of 
Norfolk.
Services will be held at the chapel of the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 
Colonial Avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. J. Sutherland 
Watt, rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, of which Mr. Gray was a member, 
and the Rev. E.P. Miner, rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, officiating. 
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
