John S. Green, a cousin of the late Col. Turner Ashby, and brother-in-law of Tazewell Taylor, a distinguished Confederate soldier, who has been an honored citizen of Norfolk for some years past, passed away from earth in the seventy-fourth year of his age. The deceased was a native of Rappahannock County, where he resided on his farm until failing health induced his removal to Norfolk. During the late war he was a member of the Sixth Virginia Regiment of Cavalry, rising its command, where he displayed eminent courage and ability. He was twice wounded, and was at one time a prisoner, but never missed a battle in which his command was engaged. The funeral took place today at 11 a.m. from Christ P.E. Church, and was largely attended by relatives and friends and Pickett-Buchanan Camp of Confederate Veterans, of which in life he was a member. The solemn services were conducted by Rev. O.S. Barten, the rector, and at their conclusion the remains were conveyed to Elmwood Cemetery, where they were interred. The following gentlemen acted as pall-bearers: Col. E.M. Henry, Major D. Humphreys, Samuel P. Moore, Esq., Capt. B.P. Loyall, Dr. E.H. Poindexter and Major John H. Core.
