Two other officers composing the party sustained critical injuries. Killed were Mrs. Catherine Greenhill Fleming, Norfolk; Miss Ernestine Randolph, Newport News; Lt. Conrad Montrose of Staten Island, NY. Injured were Capt. Melvin P. Nelson of New Jersey, and Capt. Roberts of Tennessee. Native of Norfolk Mrs. Fleming a native of Norfolk, and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Greenhill, was the wife of W. McKinley Fleming of Oakland, CA, formerly of New Orleans LA. The couple was married in 1942. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bute Street, and took an active interest in civic affairs of her community. Her funeral will be held from that church, with the pastor, the Rev. R. H. Bowling officiating, Thursday, June 20. For four years during the war, “Kitty,”, as her intimate friends addressed her, worked at the Norfolk Army Base as manager of a post exchange. Surviving are her husband; a nephew, William Staton of Norfolk; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Clara Voss, Mrs. Hazel G. Staton, and William Greenhill Jr., all of Philadelphia. Interment will be in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery with Hale Funeral Home in charge.
