He died Saturday at his residence, 420 MIddlesex Street, Berkley. He was the first worker to be employed by the late Oscar F. Smith, president of the company when the latter ventured into the fertilizer manufacturing business for himself more than 30 years ago. On the occasion of his retirement on October 31, 1947, he was presented a gold watch by Mr. Smith as a token of appreciation for his long service with the present firm and its predecessors. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, South Hill, Portlock, at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Mount Olive Cemetery, Berkley. Among company officials to serve as honorary pallbearers will be R.B. Douglass, president, and James A. Monroe, vice president.
