Norfolk Virginian March 24, 1891

                         Obsequies of S.S. Gresham

Sunday the remains of the late S.S. Gresham were interred in Elmwood Cemetery, 
after funeral services at the Freemason Street Baptist Church, which were 
conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.M.G. Scott, who was assisted by Dr. W.D. Thomas, 
Dr. T.G. Jones, of the Second Baptist Church; Dr. O.S. Barten, rector of Christ 
Episcopal Church and Dr. D.W. Gwin, of Brambleton. The pallbearers were: W.F. 
Allen, B.G. Pollard, T.F. Rogers, L. Royster, M.L.T. Davis, W.N. Grubb, T.A. 
Williams and L.T. Gwathmey. The casket was laden with floral emblems, while a 
large concourse of friends followed the bier to its resting place.
