He did so but was unable to prevent Mr. Grieves from falling heavily against an iron railing and thence to the ground. He was picked up immediately and conveyed into the barbershop of Mr. C. Koch, a few feet distant, but expired almost instantaneously after being laid down. Dr. Richard Harris, the Coroner, was summoned, who ordered an inquest to be held. The body was viewed by several physicians, among them Dr. Granier, who has been attending the deceased and this family. He stated that the deceased has been suffering for some time with disease of the heart, and the jury so returned a verdict as to the cause of death. The remains were taken to the late residence of the deceased, 54 Main street, to be made ready for interment. Mr. Grieves was about 55 years of age, a Scotchman by birth, but has been a resident of this city for a number of years, and has always maintained the character of an excellent and exemplary citizen. He has been for years a consistent member of the Cumberland Street Baptist Church, and was also a member in good standing of Harmony Lodge No. 19 and Jerusalem Encampment No. 4, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Mr. Grieve leaves a wife to mourn his loss, but through his thrift in life, she is by no means unprovided for. He also left behind him a large circle of friends and acquaintances who will sincerely mourn his departure. The funeral will take place from the residence at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The Orders of which he was a member will participate in the solemnities.
