Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - June 9, 1994 
Verdie Gertrude Griffin, 87, formerly of the 200 block of Harvard St., died 
June 7, 1994, in Norfolk. 
Mrs. Griffin was born in Copperhill, Tenn. She was the widow of Doyt G. 
Griffin. 
Survivors include three daughters, Jewel Chatten of Norfolk, Mary Frances Tutor 
of Virginia Beach and Beatrice Lazenby of Shelby, N.C.; six sons, Douglas 
Griffin and Stephen Griffin, both of Norfolk, and David Griffin and Joe 
Griffin, both of Florida, and Gene Griffin and Harold Griffin, both of North 
Carolina; a sister, Mae Graham of North Carolina; two brothers, Benton White 
and Hobert White, both of North Carolina; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-
grandchildren. 
The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Magnolia Cemetery 
by the Rev. James J. Kilpatrick. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral 
Home, Indian River Chapel, Thursday from 7 to 8p.m.
