GRIGGS BURIED IN NORFOLK YESTERDAY Burned to Death Sunday in Commissary Car Down in Alabama Young Samuel J. Griggs who was burned to death in a railway car at Tredegar Point, Ala., last Sunday, was buried in Elmwood Cemetery yesterday morning. The scene was truly a pathetic one. The service at the grave was conducted by Rev. Dr. Joseph Rennie of the First Presbyterian Church, Martinsville, Va., his native home. The floral tributes were very handsome. Following were the pallbearers: Percy Grant, Harry Grant, Judge A.J. Ackiss and Captain J.J. Burroughs. The deceased was only 20 years of age. He was the son of Mrs. Ella D. Griggs of 193 Brewer Street, and the late Samuel J. Griggs. The family came to Norfolk some time ago from Martinsville, where young Griggs lived prior to his accepting a position in the commissary department of the Seaboard Air Line in Alabama. He had expected to come to Norfolk to spend the Christmas holidays with his mother but his hope was suddenly cut off by his sad and untimely death. Besides his mother he leaves a brother, Frank Griggs and two sisters, Misses Bessie D. and Cecile Griggs.
