Hugh Blair and Mary Venable Grigsby, in the 54th year of his age. Funeral services from the residence of Pay Director William W. Galt, U.S.N., No. 121 Warren Crescent, THIS (Sunday) AFTERNOON at 4:30 o'clock. Kindly omit flowers. ************* The remains of the late Hugh Carrington Grigsby, whose death occurred at his home, Edgehill, Charlotte County, Thursday last, arrived in Norfolk at 5:20 p.m. yesterday, over the Norfolk and Virginian Railway, and were taken to the residence of Pay Director W.W. Galt, U.S.N., where the funeral will be held at 4:30 o'clock this afternoon. The services will be conducted by Rev. Dr. J. Ernest Thacker of the Second Presbyterian Church. Mr. Grigsby was the son of the late Hon. Hugh Blair Grigsby and Mary Venable Grigsby. *************************************************************************** The remains of the late Hugh Carrington Grigsby, son of the late Hon. Hugh Blair Grigsby, whose death occurred at his home, "Edgehill," Charlotte County, Va., Thursday of last week, arrived in Norfolk Saturday evening, accompanied by relatives. The funeral was held from the residence of Pay Director W.W. Galt, U.S.N., 121 Warren Crescent, Ghent, Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock and was numerously attended. The service was conducted by Rev. J.E. Thacker, of the Second Presbyterian Church and Rev. David W. Howard, of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery. Following were the pallbearers: Col. L.W.T. Waller, Calvert Chamberlain, L.W. Tazewell, Edward D.V. Bradford, Frank H. Camp, Cornelius DeWitt, R.E. DeJarnette and Joseph Gamson. Virginian Pilot March 30, 1909 **************************************************************************** Carrington Grigsby died at his ancestral home, "Edgehill," Thursday night of appendicitis. Mr. Grigsby had been indisposed for two weeks but not until Thursday morning was his condition considered critical. The remains were taken over the Virginian Railway to Norfolk Saturday, where they were interred Sunday afternoon. Mr. Grigsby was about 54 years old and was never married. He was educated at Hampden-Sydney College. He was of distinguished ancestry, his father being Hon. Hugh Blair Grigsby, of national reputation as an author and man of letters. Mrs. W.W. Galt, his sister, wife of Paymaster Galt, of the Navy, is the only surviving member of the family.
