The Virginian Pilot February 10, 1961
Mrs. Maude Sykes Grimes, 68, wife of John Edward Grimes, died Thursday at 4:10 
p.m. in a Norfolk hospital.
A native of Fentress, she was a daughter of John Henry and Mrs. Lydia Halstead 
Sykes. She lived in South Norfolk the last 60 years, lately at 1601 Chesapeake 
Ave.
She was a member of Chesapeake Avenue Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one stepdaughter, Mrs. J.W. 
Miles, and two stepsons, E.W. Grimes Sr. and Vernon C. Grimes, all of South 
Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Speight of South Norfolk and Mrs. Eva 
Hollowell of Rockingham, N.C.; and two brothers, William A. Sykes of 
Fredericksburg and Maywood B. Sykes of Norfolk.
A funeral service will be held in Chesapeake Avenue Methodist Church Saturday 
at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
The body will be taken from Graham Funeral Home in the church one hour before 
the service.
