A funeral service was held Thursday at St. Mark’s AME Church in Oceana for 
John T. Grimstead, 43, of Monroe avenue, Virginia Beach. Mr. Grimstead died 
Oct. 30 in McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond.

The Rev. D. P. Felton, pastor of St. Mark’s officiated and delivered the 
eulogy. He was assisted by Elder H. C. Benjamin and the Rev. T. M. Williams. 
Burial was in the Grimstead family plot in Calvary Cemetery under direction 
of W. Francis Taylor Jr.

A native of Virginia Beach, Mr. Grimstead was the son of Mrs. Mille 
Grimstead White and the late George L. Grimstead.

The deceased attended Booker T. Washington High School and Virginia State 
College. He was a member of Carver post of the American Legion, a charter 
member of the Whats Club and a member of St. Mark’s Church, as well as 
fraternal organizations.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Grimstead is survived by his stepfather, 
William White; two brothers, George E. and Herbert Grimstead; two half 
brothers, George L. Grimstead and James E. Grimstead; an aunt, Mrs. Annie 
Holloway, a great aunt, Mrs. Harriett Hyman; an uncle, William Grimstead of 
Virginia Beach, and other relatives.
