The Virginian Pilot Friday June 30, 1911
Richard Drummond Grinalds, one of the best known residents of the ward, died 
yesterday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the family residence, 405 Berkley avenue, 
after an illness of three months in the 59th year of his age.

The deceased was made street inspector of Berkley ward when it became a part of 
the city which position he has held continuously since, performing the duties 
of the office with credit to himself.

When the town was wrested from the Fusion hold severa' years ago, Mr. Grinalds 
was one of its first councilmen under the Straightout regime.

He was a native of Norfolk county and has lived in the county and city during 
his enitre life.

He was an esteemed member of Memorial M.E. Church.

The deceased was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends who regret his 
end.

He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Ida Virginia Grinalds, one son, Archibald 
Southy Grinalds; two brothers, Henry F. and William S. Grinalds, and three 
sisters, Miss Mary R. and Miss Sarah S. Grinalds of Berkley ward, and Mrs. 
Charlotte R. Martin, of Portsmouth.  He was a son of the late Henry C. and Mrs. 
Sarah S. Grinalds.

The funeral takes place from Memorial M. E. Church, Berkley, today (Friday 
afternoon) at 5:30 o'clock, and will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. T. 
Green.  The remains will be laid to rest in Magnolia cemetery.
