Grinder, 103, of 5631 Tidewater Drive, a native of Washington and the widow of James F. Grinder, died Saturday in a hospital. She had come to Norfolk from Washington in 1906 with her late husband, who was in the import-export business. In 1982 at a 102nd birthday party given her by her church, St. Pius X Catholic Church, she reminisced about riding down Pennsylvania Avenue in a surry. She said that her father, a stonecutter, had cut one of the stones used in building the Washington Monument. Survivors include two nieces, Erma Newcomer of Smithsburg, Md. and Violet Gray of Moyock, N.C. The funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Pius X Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday in H.D.
