Thomas Grissom Jr., 81, of the 7100 block of Granby St., died July 7, 2002. Mr. Grissom was born in Blacksburg, Va., and was the widower of Norma Butler Grissom. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and retired as the circulation director for the Norfolk Newspapers. He was a member and former chairman of the Board of Trustees of James Barry Robinson and also was a founding and lifelong member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Norfolk. Survivors include his son, Richard Wayne Grissom and his wife Mary Lou of Norfolk; his two daughters, Carole Anne Grissom Cowling of Virginia Beach and Mary Margaret Keogh and her husband Robert of Norfolk; grandchildren, Robin Phillips, Amy Kanter, Jennifer Grissom, Mark Grissom, Emily Zak, Leigh Keogh and Caitlin Cowling; and great-grandchildren, Meghan Kanter, Catherine Kanter, Natalie Kanter and William Zak. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church by Father Brian Rafferty. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. A Christian Wake will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the Norfolk chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Church, 3401 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509.
