Virginian Pilot Thursday March 27, 1902

Lars Gunderson, a Norwegian seaman from the United States Coast and Geodetic 
Survey steamer Bache, departed this life at St. Vincent's Hospital, Monday, of 
pneumonia and an abscess of the lung, after an illness of little over one week, he 
having been sent to that institution while the Bache was in port here en route to 
Baltimore from the yards of her New Jersey builders. Rev. J.B. Merritt conducted 
the funeral at the grave in the Seamen's lot in Elmwood Cemetery, Tuesday 
afternoon. Chaplain Merritt will write to the chief of police of Arendal, Norway, 
where the mother resides, and request him to notify his mother of her son's death.
