He was born in Norfolk, son of the late Turner N. Sr. and Ruth F. Williams Gunter. He was a Junior Air Force ROTC instructor at Menchville High School in the Newport News School System and, from 1989 through 1992, he was cited as the Outstanding Air Force Junior ROTC instructor in the Newport News School System. He had retired from the Air Force after serving 29 years. He was a member of the Tux Club, a Prince Hall Mason and a past master of St. John's Lodge (NU)7 in Smyrna, Del. Survivors include his wife, Marva J. Gunter of the home; one daughter, Theodora Gunter of Miami; two sons, Turner N. Gunter III of Columbus, Ohio, and Tracy Gunter of Wilmington, Del.; two sisters, Virginia Mayberry of Norfolk and Ruth Smalls of Houston; one grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in New Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev. G.G. Campball. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Riddick Funeral Service, where the family will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.
