She was the daughter of the late Aileen Taylor Black and the late Barron Foster Black. She is survived by her husband, Harry N. Gustin and her beloved sons, Walter Bramblette Martin III and his wife, Paloma Munoz Martin, of New York and Barron Black Martin and his wife, Ann Johnston Martin, of Annapolis, Md. She was the proud grandmother of Sarah Bramblette Martin and Barron Black Martin Jr. also of Annapolis. She is also survived by two sisters, Anna Black Hudgins and Jane Black Clark. A remarkably giving person, Aileen's joy came from reaching out to others with encouraging words and caring ways. She treasured her relationships with people and saw Christ reflected in those around her. Consequently, her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched from many different walks of life. For Aileen, life was filled with love of beauty, which was portrayed in her home and love for flowers. She was able to capture the beauty of her surroundings as an artist later in life. On April 21, 2001 at the Hermitage Museum, there was an exhibit of Aileen's paintings, especially landscapes and still lifes. To quote Catherine Dorsey of The Virginian-Pilot, ``Gustin has developed her own unique style that tells of her love for her garden and the community. Here are life's small and most important pleasures: the ones that can't be bought.'' The opening was followed by a reception, and the exhibit, originally planned for a two-week period, remained on display for several months. In addition to being an artist, Aileen nurtured her spiritual life in prayer and studying God's Word, both individually and in fellowship with others. Aileen's main interest in the community were her involvement with the Norfolk Historic Foundation and the Hermitage Foundation Board. She was a lifelong member of Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, and a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Marco Island, Fla. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Norfolk. Memorial donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 7400 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk, VA, 23505, or to a charity of one's choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
