Orville Warner Guy, aged 56, executive secretary of the Coal Merchants Service 
Bureau, died yesterday afternoon at 5:40 o'clock at his residence, 4901 Colonial 
avenue, from a stroke of paralysis suffered at his office several hours earlier.
Mr. Guy was found lying on the floor of his office in the New Monroe Building 
shortly after 1 o'clock by his stenographer, on her return from lunch. She 
summoned an ambulance, and he was taken to his home. He had been in failing 
health for several months, associates said.
A native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, Mr. Guy had been identified with the 
coal business here since early youth, having been a retail coal dealer for many 
years. He had been executive secretary of the Coal Merchants Service Bureau 
since its organization some four years ago. Associates said he was a highly 
valuable man, and they anticipated difficulty in replacing him.
Mr. Guy was a son of the late Joseph L. and Mrs. Cecelia Hendren Guy. He is 
survived by his wife, Mrs. Berta Whitehurst Guy; two daughters, Mrs. R. A. 
Hilliard and Mrs. Charles Sorrell, Jr., and a granddaughter, all of Norfolk, and 
a brother, Ernest L. Guy, of Arizona.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home of E. Lee Cox & Bro., 631 
Westover avenue, tomorrow at noon. The Rev. Sparks W. Melton, pastor of 
Freemason Street Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood 
Cemetery.
