Funeral services for Dr. Lomax Gwathmey, nationally-known Norfolk surgeon, who 
died Monday at midnight at his Virginia Beach residence, will be conducted at 
Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church today at 4 p.m.
Services will be conducted by the Rt. Rev. George P. Gunn, D.D., bishop of the 
Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia, and the Rev. George Peyton Williams, 
rector of the church. The body will be taken to the church from the H. D. Oliver 
Funeral Apartments. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Dr. Gwathmey, 84, known as the dean of Norfolk surgeons, retired from active 
practice in September, 1948. Among his more recent attainments was his 
instrumentality in founding the Norfolk Diagnostic Tumor Clinic.
He had been ill since last September.
